It really was. I won't ruin anything for you, but the scene in particular I'm thinking of is when they're all in a car as major earthquakes hit. Seriously insane work, and just great eye candy.

it was ok, i watched, and did like the eye candy of the CGI, very well done. Because I rented that, they let me have another Blu-Ray for free, so i tried out Transformers 2...WOW. Great on the Blu-ray. Oh, and FUCK YOU for not warning me that 2012 was 2 and a half hours LONG!

I agree that the CGI in 2012 was really good, but in general I thought the movie was... just o.k. I guess? :cantlook:
I like a good action movie now and then, and this one piqued my interest even more because of the whole Mayan doomsday thing that hasn't really been done much yet.
But I guess it was just so many close calls that they started to lose their effect on me by the end of the movie.
(And by close calls I mean 'come within a clams-hair of catastrophic death only to drive/fly/run/etc just out of harms way at the absolute last millisecond possible', then lather, rinse and repeat until the end credits start rolling.)

We saw it yesterday and thought the same thing. There were some people who got up to go wee or get food/beverage half way through the movie, and I'm fairly sure they must have been totally lost when they got back in the theater. Pretty good movie though for those that don't mind having to follow along a little bit, I liked it.
